What is important to know and what is the best option for YOU?
Get a better overview and maybe a bit help deciding what is best for your next dive.
Pros of shore dives.
Especially in the beginning new divers can be a bit scared of their first dives. Here a shore dive can help, since you can walk directly from the shore into the water, and you don’t have to jump into the blue. Therefore, this is particularly convenient for Discover Scuba Divers and Open Water Students. On most Shore Dives you can also find a parking spot nearby and usually don’t have to walk more than 100 meters to the water. On Tenerife itself you can find plenty of options for shore dives to discover!
Pros of boat dives.
Still there are plenty of positive aspects regarding boat dives as well. Since you can just put your Equipment on, on the Boat and then directly jump into the water, you barely have to carry it yourself. On most boats you can find restrooms and a sunroof as well, which can be nice especially in between dives.
What should I keep in mind?
It always depends on the location! Most locations are perfect to reach by car, but for some you NEED to do a boat dive to get there. It also depends on what you enjoy more and find more comfortable for yourself. Just because somebody else loves boat dives doesn’t mean they will fulfill your needs as well! Just do a little research or ask at the dive center for advice, to help you figure out what location suits you and your dive expectations!
Our opinion?
Personally, we have to say, that we think during a shore dive most divers pay more attention to little details. Instead of trying to see big animals like stingrays or sharks, divers get excited about seeing little crabs, octopus, cuttlefish and just schools of different types of fishes!
In addition to that it should be said that most boat dives are a bit deeper and therefore not a perfect fit for newbies since their certification limits the depth they can dive to. We recommend being at least an Advanced Open Water Diver or further. But! Still: On a boat dive you have the chance of seeing bigger animals like rays, turtles, or morays.
